Upgrading to AVG Free Edition 7.5
AVG Free Anti 7.1 was discontinued on the 18th of Feb 2007 but don't worry, the nice people at Grisoft have a new version in place to download for private, non-commercial, single home computer use only. However, it's not an upgrade for 7.1 so you will have to physically remove 7.1 before installing the new 7.5 replacement. It's easy to uninstall 7.1. There are a few ways to accomplish this but the easiest is to go to >Start>All Programs>AVG Free Edition or Grisoft>Uninstall AVG Free Edition. Another method is to go to >Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs>Find AVG Free or Grisoft in your list then highlight it then select change/remove Programs. In both cases, Windows may ask you to reboot once you have finished. Whether you're prompted to or not it's always a good idea to reboot when removing one program and installing a new one just because when you reboot, it refreshes your system. When you uninstall programs, sometimes there are files that don't release themselves until a reboot as they are in use at the time the program is uninstalled. When you reboot, you ensure that all deleted files are no longer in use thus reducing the chances of software conflicts with the fresh install.
After that's done, you can now install AVG Free anti virus 7.5 with a clean slate. Doubleclick the icon on your desktop and follow the prompts to install the software.
