AVG Free ForumThere appears to be many of you out there that have questions about AVGFree so thought we would dedicate a page on how to use the AVG Free forum and give you a couple of their most asked questions. First of all you can access the Avg Free Forum here. All AVGFree users may ask questions or participate in the forum but you must register first. If you don't want to register then there's still a wealth of information that you can access by using the search key. Make absolutely sure that you search out your question first before submitting it as it most likely has already been answered. Please read AVG Forum How to Ask for Help for more information. If you have a brand new question that you haven't found anywhere while searching then feel free to ask it but make sure that you post it in the right area. The forum moderators get so many questions that they respectfully ask you to do a little research on your own so that they can get to the brand new issues in a timely manner. As many of you have now upgraded to ang free anti virus 7.5, there seems to be a few questions that are getting asked repeatedly. Here's a few we have noticed directly from the AVG Forum. USER32.DLL ChangeQuestion 1: I am running an avg free scanner on a pc and although it has not detected any threats in the box above where the numbers are running through, it brings up a line which says: file =user32 result/infection =change path= C:/windows/system32/user32.dll What does this mean? AVG's Answer: It is normal that AVG Free Scanner shows that files, the MBR or Boot record to have changed. These are done during normal maintainance, when you or windows updates files or have had to correct errors on the drive. The only time that you should worry is if they also show as infected. To get the AVG Free Scanner to quit showing them as changed, open the AVG Test Center, click the F3 key on your keyboard and tell it to accept the changes. If it still shows something as changed after this.. delete the file named AVG7QT.DAT in C:\ and AVG will rebuild it the next time it is run. Shell32 ChangeQuestion 1: C:Windows /system32\ntoskrnl.exe in avg scan... How do i fix this?? Question 2: The file/folder C:WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll shows as an item when the computer is scanned, altho it is not recognized as a threat...it has been changed. How do I correct whatever the problem is? AVG's Answer: It is normal that AVG Free Scanner shows that files, the MBR or Boot record to have changed. These are done during normal maintainance, when you or windows updates files or have had to correct errors on the drive. The only time that you should worry is if they also show as infected. To get the AVG Free Scanner to quit showing them as changed, open the AVG Test Center, click the F3 key on your keyboard and tell it to accept the changes. If it still shows something as changed after this.. delete the file named AVG7QT.DAT in C:\ and AVG will rebuild it the next time it is run. Trojan Horse Generic3.GOHQuestion: Since the last update , AVG says the file MSWINSCK.ocx is infected by the Trojan Horse Generic3.GOH. Anyone else? AVG's Answer: Please be informed that the infection you mentioned in the email is a false detection of the AVG system. The next AVG priority update will fix the issue. If you need to restore deleted files from AVG Virus Vault you can do it this way: open AVG Virus Vault (Start -> Programs -> AVG Antivirus -> AVG Virus Vault). Locate the file that was removed, right click on it and choose "Restore File(s)" option. We are sorry for the inconvenience. AVGFree is a wonderful free antivirus program and it's great to have a support forum to refer to when you need it. AVG Free is for private, non-commercial, single home computer use only.
